Medicines and Prescribing
The Medicines Management Team for South Staffordshire PCT consists of a Head of Medicines Management, three Senior Pharmaceutical Advisors, three Pharmacy Technicians and two Administration support staff.
The team works closely with all 96 General Practices and 107 Community Pharmacies across South Staffordshire PCT. The prescribing budget for 2007-08 for South Staffordshire PCT is approximately £90 million.
Roles of the South Staffordshire PCT Medicines Management Team include:
- Financial Management including management of GP prescribing budgets. This includes the managed introduction of new drugs.
- Organisational achievement of medicines management requirements in Standards for Better Health with an emphasis on clinical and cost effectiveness.
- Maintenance of communication links with other providers e.g. Secondary care, community pharmacies.
