Joint Formularies

There are currently three joint formularies in operation across the South Staffordshire PCT. Each joint formulary links to a hospital that people who reside in South Staffordshire PCT may attend. The hospital that a patient attends dictates which formulary is used for medication prescribing advice.

A joint formulary is essentially a ‘preferred’ prescribing list that both primary care (general practitioners and non-medical prescribers) and secondary care (hospital doctors and non-medical prescribers) use to guide their prescribing. The medications included in the formularies have been assessed for evidence and cost-effectiveness and are deemed to be more appropriate and safe to prescribe using information currently available.
