Vaccination and Immunisation
Childhood Vaccinations
In the UK, the childhood immunisation programme is highly successful. This means that some diseases are now rarely seen in children, for example diphtheria, polio and tetanus. We have included the routine immunisation schedule information, to assist you in knowing when your baby, or babies, should receive their immunisations.
You will be invited to attend your General Practitioner, where the Practice Nurse of Health Visitor will carry out the immunisation.
We reiterate the importance of parents protecting their children, by ensuring that their child, or children, receives the appropriate vaccination at the correct time. We have also included some pictures of some of the diseases to remind you of the serious consequences that infection can have upon a child.
Each vaccination is given as a single injection into the muscle of the thigh or upper arm.
